As I write this, I’ve just returned from my 2nd annual CEO Retreat…

Last year, one of my best friends, Michelle, inspired me to take myself on a year-end business retreat. I went and it was glorious, but I almost didn’t go this year. Now, I’m glad I did.

In our fast-paced lives, both personally and professionally, we seldom allow ourselves the luxury of slowing down and taking a moment to reflect. Yet, this is precisely what this annual retreat represents for me - a chance to decelerate, introspect, gain clarity, and unwind.

During this retreat, I typically retreat to a cozy cabin. For the last 2 years, I’ve gone to the Lodges on Vashon Island—only 15 miles from where I live but a ferry ride across the water. Here, I purposely disconnect from the outside world for a couple of days. It is during this time that I devote myself to learning, personal growth, and contemplation - activities that often take a backseat in our hectic schedules.

Oh, and take baths. Lots of long, hot baths.

I try to take all the logistics out of this trip—well, as many as possible. I intentionally choose a place that’s close and easy to get to. I bring all my food with me so that I don’t have to worry about feeding myself while I’m there. And I even jot down ideas for how I want to spend my time before the retreat arrives.

But, I did something else this time that I really loved and highly recommend. I set my intention.

On night 1 over a glass of wine, I set my intention for what I want out of this time and out of this weekend.

This retreat has become an essential ritual as I prepare to enter the new year. I strongly recommend it to anyone seeking renewal and revitalization. However, I understand that not everyone may be able to dedicate the same amount of time or resources to such a retreat. Therefore, I encourage you to do whatever you can to make space for self-care and reflection, even if it means starting small.

Consider journaling your vision for the new year, taking a soothing bubble bath, or cozying up by the fire with a captivating book, channeling your inner Cameron Diaz from the movie "The Holiday." Find what resonates with you and create the space for it as you embark on the new year, stronger and more rejuvenated than ever before.

Because you deserve it.

What are you going to make space for this weekend? How can you pour into yourself and nurture your well-being? Embrace this opportunity to prioritize self-care and set the foundation for a fulfilling and successful year ahead. Let your inner light shine! ✨💕
