Sustainable performance, generically speaking, is the practice of pursuing ambitious goals with systems, recovery, boundaries, and support that protect your capacity over time. On a higher level and on a bigger scale, sustainable performance is what allows high achievers to chase their big, ambitious, bold dreams, to pursue the things they want to pursue, to let their ambition run amok in the way only a high achiever's ambition can, and to do it in a way that isn't going to drive them into the ground.
At Coach Ellyn we believe that you can do anything but you cannot be everything. Sustainable performance, or at least you can't be everything at the exact same time, without these operating principles underneath you and that's what sustainable performance really helps create.

Sustainable performance is really for everybody but the niche specifically that we serve here at Coach Ellyn is high-achieving founders, professionals, and students who want to keep performing at a high level without burning out.
There's a reason for this. There's a common misconception that the people who are most likely to burn out are the people who are underperforming. The fact of the matter is high performers and high achievers are the ones that are most likely to burn out. Their burnout is very, very subtle because it's not necessarily them being unproductive or not finishing the work that needs to be done. It's quieter, it's more emotional, and that really is who the sustainable performance at Coach Ellyn is meant to serve.

This is one of those places where I don't know that they're different because they are interconnected but ultimately sustainable performance is just bigger. Productivity focuses on output, your ability to be effective in the time where you are working, right? Sustainable performance looks at the whole operating system:

You need productivity to have sustainable performance but what sustainable performance addresses is often what productivity misses: self-care, mindset, and beyond.

Yes absolutely, sustainable performance can help with burnout. In fact it is really the methodology and the strategy behind how we create lifestyles where burnout isn't as much of a factor. Though the practices we engage in when it comes to sustainable performance aren't necessarily geared toward burnout recovery, what they are geared toward is burnout prevention. When you have strong systems, cleaner expectations, and clear operating patterns in place, they reduce the created strain that ultimately leads to burnout. That is the role that sustainable performance is meant to play.
The best time to engage with this work is prior to getting into a state of burnout or once you've recovered from a state of burnout so that you never get back to that place anymore.

The work we do here at Coach Ellyn is really meant to help high achievers build sustainable performance through systems, coaching, productivity strategy, and academic mentorship. I do this work because I keep seeing the same thing: high achievers who are carrying everything and burning out not because they're unbalanced but because nobody ever taught them how to play the long game. Nobody helps them build to their goals in a way that was sustainable, supported by systems, and actually fit how they're wired. They've just been given the gold star, the accolade, and told to keep doing it, keep working, and keep white knuckling their entire life.
That's what I do here at Coach Ellyn whether it's a founder who needs to get everything out of their head and into systems that run without them or a high-achieving student who's firing on all cylinders and quietly crashing in the process. It's the same playbook in a different field and that is the work we do here at Coach Ellyn.
