The Top 10 Reasons To Hire a Coach
1
To help you reach your highest potential
(Not if you feel like your life is βgood enoughβ)
One of the biggest why people hire coaches is because theyβre looking to level-up in their life. Coaching isnβt for people who are good to go, are happy where their life is at, or are looking for βgood enoughβ. So, if thatβs where youβre at, youβre likely not going to get what you want out of thisβ¦
Coaching is for people who want βmoreβ in their life. People who invest in coaching are looking to take better care of theselves, to have better relationships, to have better clarity, to be more productive, etc. So, if your goal is to be more, reach your highest potential, and level-up, coaching is for you
2
To have an unbiased perspective on your life, decisions, goals, etc
(Not to tell you what to do or judge you)
Coaching provides you with guidance without judgment and the reason why thatβs such a valuable perspective to have is that our friends and family members often donβt. As much as our loved ones, well, love us, they do have a bias. If we have a incredible opportunity that involves leaving for 12 months or moving across the country, they will likely have a bias in that because they may not want us to leave. A coach.
A coach is able to objectively help you evaluate your life, your decisions, your goals, and the opportunities that present themselves. A coach can help you navigate these opportunities and determine what are the best ones for you. Thereβs no judgment and no pushing my values onto you. Itβs all about you, and what is the best next step for your life and what you want out of it.
3
To help you know yourself. notice your blindspots & overcome them
(Not to fix whatβs wrong with you - cuz nothing is)
I love the saying that βawareness is the first stepβ, but sometimes self-awareness can only take us so far. Why? Because we can get emotional. If the people in our lives are biased, we also have our own biases, judgments, fears, etc. that might limit us in evaluating our own lives.
Coaches are professionally trained to spot patterns and ask questions to uncover the things that are holding you back the most. But, please know that this isnβt about βfixing youβ. Youβre not broken. Thereβs nothing wrong with you. So, if thatβs what youβre seeking out coaching for, you might be in the wrong place. This is about enhancing your awareness to help make you better, not to give you reason to think youβre βnot enough.β
4
To help you find sustainable systems that work for you
(Not to give you a specific βhow toβ manual)
Thatβs right. This is about creating sustainable systems that work for you. But, itβs not about telling you what to do. This isnβt a βhow toβ manual. To quote Brene Brown, βhow to doesnβt work. If βhow toβ worked, we wouldnβt be the most medicated, depressed, and in debt cohort in human history.β
Anything we work through - self-care, productivity, etc. - we will find the best thing for you. No health program, goal achievement strategy, or business model is going to work long-term if itβs not sustainable. If itβs going to burn you out, itβs not going to work. So, we will work together, trying different things and experimenting, until we find what works for you.
So, if youβre looking for βhow-toβ - coaching isnβt for you! But, if youβre looking to find the right strategies and systems for you to use in your life long-term, Iβve got your back, my friend.
5
To hold you accountable to doing the work itβs going to take
(Not to be a 1x a week βgreat conversationβ)
Coaching is - first and foremost - about accountability, in my opinion. We can all find out what to try, what to do, and what questions to ask to help us live better lives. Hell, itβs the internet age. The amount of information thatβs accessible too us is insane nowadays. So, yes, you could probably find just about anything I know or can teach you online somewhere. Iβll admit it.
But, how many times have you committed to a goal and not followed-through? Probably quite a few times, am I right? Thatβs the beauty of coaching. It holds you accountable. It keeps you motivated. Itβs not about letting you start and then stop. Itβs about making sure you stay on the path and moving forward. Because of that, though, it is going to require work outside of the session.
So, if youβre looking for something to be just a βgreat conversationβ week in and week out, something that isnβt going to require you to show up outside of the session, then coaching isnβt for you. But if youβre looking for something to hold you accountable to getting shit done, coaching is for you!
6
To help you achieve your goals & ambitions more quickly
(Not to waste your time guessing & checking)
You know what I said above? How you can find everything I know and everything I can teach you somewhere online? Itβs the truth. But lemme tell you - that shit can take the long-time. The analogy I love is this: you can walk across the nation to get where you want to go OR you can just take a plane.
Thatβs what coaching is. Coaching is taking a plan instead of walking. Coaching is saving you the time, energy, and effort it would take to guess + check your way to your goals and ambitions. Coaching is saving you from having to do all the research and the work to find the information you need yourself.
Thatβs the beauty of coaching.
7
To help you get clearer on who you are
(Not to tell you who you are)
A big part of coaching is about clarity. Before I started working with a coach and getting clear on myself, I had no idea what my values are, what my core motivations were, or what I truly wanted out of life. But then, working with coaches over the years helped me get clear on all of that.
Because a lack of clarityβ¦thatβs like starting of on a 300-mile trek without a damn mapβand thatβs just stupid, isnβt it? Coaching helps you get clear so that you have a map to guide you forward. To show you the end destination that youβre working toward anyway.
What itβs not? Itβs not telling you who you are. Itβs not telling you what success looks like. Itβs not imposing my beliefs of a life well lived on you. Not at all. Itβs all about youo and your own self-discovery.
8
To help you put your money where your mouth is
(Not to be βcheap and easyβ)
One of the biggest things that coaching is is an investmentβin your time and of your money. Coaches have invested a shit ton of time into their own training and to get good coaching, it does come at a cost. So, if youβre looking for something inexpensive, know that youβre going to get what you pay for. If youβre lookign for easy, thatβs not what youβre going to get either. A big investment will bring about a big transformationβthatβs the deal.
If youβre struggling with this one, consider this story about Picasso, which you may have heard before. It really paints the picture of what youβre investing in.
In the story, a woman sees Picasso in a market and asks him, βWould you draw something for me?β
He says, βsureβ and proceeded to draw a beautiful little sketch on a napkin. He hands it to her and says, βthat will be thirty thousand dollars.β
The woman is surprised and says βBut, Mr. Picasso, how can you charge me so much? This drawing only took you 30 seconds!β
Picasso paused and said, βMadame, it took me thirty years.β
When you hire a coach, itβs not a simple time for money transaction. Youβre also paying for all the effort that person put into learning their craft. This investment should stretch you, and if it doesnβt? You might want to consider if youβre actually getting the value you want from your coaching experienceβ¦
9
To benefit from someone elseβs expertise
(Not to do it all aloneβ¦)
Coaches are experts in personal transformation, productivity, self-care, self-awareness, and many many other things. Theyβre professionals in the very things that are going to help you achieve your goals and what you want out of life.
Let me give you a feel for the kinds of credentials coaches might carry. For example, I have a certification in neurolinguistic programming (NLP). NLP is a field wherein you can look for patterns in someoneβs words, eye movements, and more to help you uncover their modes of communication and more. I also have am a certified professional coach. In this training program, I learned how to leverage powerful questions to uncover what you truly want and whatβs going to be the best way to get you there. Iβve also read 50 books a years in the fields of mindfulness, spirituality, productivity, and more.
Coaches have also sorts of training, knowledge, and skillsβ¦and instead of having to learn all those things yourself, working with a coach allows you to leverage all of this to better your life.
10
To help you navigate uncertainty
(Not to be someone to vent to)
Coaches can be used for many different situations in liveβwhen something bad has happened, when something good has happened, or when youβre stuck and things are staying the same. Bad things and good things have an element of uncertaintyβ¦and uncertainty can be pretty damn terrifying.
A coach can help you overcome those fears and put them into proper perspective so that you can move through the uncertainty to make gains in your life.
